African Violet

This African Violet was my Mom's.
She was able to keep it blooming most of the time.
I'm pleased to see it in full bloom now.
It reminds me of her.

L C Smith typewriter

This is my mother's typewriter from around 1940.  She was a secretarial student at Potomac State College in Keyser WV then worked as a typist for Fairchild in Hagerstown, MD and later for the American Red Cross in Washington, DC.

Pay close attention to the keys, many of which are obsolete like Ribbon Key and fractions.  Note the ribbon, the manual return, the keys!

Try to imagaine the sound and sight of a room full of women during World War II striking away at machines just like this one.

As you can see I have left Mom's typewriter lovingly unrestored.

Feeding Frenzy!

I recently added a thistle feeder to my back yard.  The finches, especially the purple finches, are really just flying pigs.  Although I don't often shoot birds I decided to give it a try.   You can see the rest of the set on my Flickr page by clicking here

Memorial Day 2010 Falls Church Va

Here are some images that I shot at the Falls Church Virginia 2010 Memorial Day Festival and Parade.  It had a very small town feel.  FC brands itself as "The Little City" and certainly lived up to that on this day.  I shot in the street photography style that I developed last summer.  Thanks for  your comments and thoughts.
